The Long Journey of “Lift You Up": “Lift You Up” was written seven years ago before being released in 2025. What made you hold onto this song for so long, and why did now feel like the right time to share it with the world?

I'd attempted to ignite the song into production mode twice prior to moving to the states in 2022; they never manifested into anything, as it was evidently not the right time for it. When I moved to Alabama, I continued coming back to it and playing around with the composition arrangement before recording a home demo and then left it at that.

Then in 2025 Larry Mitchell and I were both musically involved in a live performance by our mutual friend and exceptional artist Katie Martin at the Soundwall in Opelika, AL. During that time, Larry invited me to The Chocolate Room Studios to perform live, two songs for his Live at The Chocolate Room Sessions. One of the songs I chose to play was Lift You Up. The development from this instance was a single one that was produced.

Finding Meaning in Struggles: You mentioned that the song reflects the pressures and responsibilities of simply being human. Was there a specific personal experience that inspired the lyrics?

Yes, I believe inadvertently, unconsciously allowing the song to unleash itself initially having relevance to my life, being at the time in a long-distance relationship, living quite an ungrounded lifestyle, being a musician working on various projects, moving from place to place, and working extra temp jobs. During the conscious effort of the writing stages, I became focused on thinking about the fragility of human behavior and endeavor and how humans are naturally susceptible to chemical imbalances in the brain via diet, biological genetics, and such and environmental strain, and that can indirectly support life's addictions and afflictions, overwhelming a human's ability to be loyal to their wants and to give service for betterment in the lives of their friends and family, lovers, strangers, and, in fact, themselves. There is in fact a verse that is not on the single, but was a heavy contribution in the making of it, giving it the full emotive nuance of the song: "To save yourself from the bottom, you've got to hold yourself up from underneath the bottom."

Creative Connections: Your husband Tony Brook and artist friend Katie Martin played a role in connecting you with Larry Mitchell. How did that introduction shape the future of this song?

The natural network between musician friends naturally can and does carve a way for connection and collaboration regularly in the creative world and industry, and in this instance, it has led to Larry producing Lift You Up, which has since led to the song being given an honorable mention at the recent 2026 Global Music Awards.

Studio Magic: Larry Mitchell is a Grammy Award-winning producer and guitarist. What was your experience like collaborating with him on “Lift You Up”?

Amazing. Magical. Eye opening. I learned a lot from Larry in a very short space of time. Watching his skill and mastery was just wonderful to be a witness to and something I am truly grateful for.

From Acoustic to Anthem: The song started as a simple guitar-and-vocals performance before evolving into a fuller production. How did you feel hearing the song transform in the studio?

Elated. Overwhelmed. Excited. Tearful. By the grace of God, thankful. My jaw dropped! Like a WOW feeling.

A Sound Without Limits: “Lift You Up” beautifully blends Folk, Pop, and Indie influences. How would you describe your musical style, and which artists or genres have inspired your sound

My styles somewhat vary in their stylized approach depending on the compositions, who I am writing with/for, what type of project, and the outcomes and objectives. Personal journey songs do tend to lend themselves to an indie folk, R&B, pop & rock vibe. Artists who have inspired my sound and writing span a huge range over many years, but to name a very small handful, Tori Amos, Ezio, Sheryl Crow, Joni Mitchell, Texas, and genres are varied, crossovers of pop, soul, R&B, indie, rock, jazz, classical, dance, funk, country & blues, and of course folk.

Live at The Chocolate Room: You performed at Live at The Chocolate Room sessions. Can you tell us more about that experience and what it meant to you as an artist?

I was nervous! Haha. Since moving to the States in 2022, I believe my second solo show of playing all originals was opening for an amazing talent, Susie Garcia, in May 2025 at the Jailhouse in Opelika, AL, all thanks to Cate Prague for not only being a transcending force in that instance but also supporting & connecting not only me but also many artists within the local musician circuit. And so that particular gig had, in fact, reignited a little more fire in my belly to work on dusting off some songs that had been sleeping, like Lift You Up. So to connect it to the experience, I was given an opportunity to play two original songs live that fall into different genres. Larry's natural demeanor supports you to feel relaxed and truly valid as an artist, so I was able to feel confident to not sweat the small stuff on camera and feel free to diversify in the moment. In reflection, it also gave me the opportunity of awareness that I was ready to begin to take slow, steady, redefined steps in how I approach my personal music business again. So since the Live In The Chocolate Room Sessions performance, it has been a wonderful journey navigating new terrain.

The Message of Healing: The song carries such a powerful message of hope and resilience. What do you hope listeners take away after hearing “Lift You Up”?

I hope they feel their own sense of healing and release from it and connect that it is legitimate and good to embrace that "to be vulnerable is to be strong as much as to be strong is to be vulnerable."

What’s Next: Now that this long-awaited single is finally out, what’s next for Yve Mary B? Are there any upcoming releases, performances, or projects fans should look forward to?

Yes, I have a new single coming out, written initially over 20 years ago! that God Willing will be officially released in its new format later this summer along with a music video.

A musician co-writer friend and I are two thirds of the way into a collaborative transatlantic album project that began organically and predominantly remotely in 2021.

And my husband Tony Brook and I will be playing sets of both our original songs on a mini tour, early this summer, mainly in Georgia, with the hopes to create a live album out of it.
