Legendary hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg is set to release his much-anticipated album, Missionary, on December 13 through Death Row/Aftermath/Interscope. This album, produced by longtime collaborator Dr. Dre, marks their first full-length project together since 1993’s iconic Doggystyle. Snoop Dogg shared his excitement about the reunion, saying, “This is a collaboration between two friends who genuinely love each other. We know we’re better together.”
Missionary brings a star-studded lineup, with guest appearances from hip-hop and rock icons alike. The 15-track album promises to bridge genres and generations, featuring notable names such as Eminem, 50 Cent, Jhené Aiko, and the late Tom Petty. Petty’s posthumous feature comes on a special rework of his ’90s hit “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” which also includes rising country-rap artist Jelly Roll. Snoop has described the chance to work with these idols as surreal: “Like a child that’s infatuated with somebody as a singer, you get a chance to meet them and they give you everything you expected.”
The album’s lead single, “Gorgeous,” featuring Jhené Aiko, has already sparked interest with its smooth blend of Snoop’s signature style and Aiko’s soulful sound. The track list hints at a dynamic range of collaborations, including “Outta Da Blue” with Dr. Dre and Alus, and “Gunz N Smoke” with Eminem and 50 Cent, two of hip-hop’s most enduring names. Snoop also joins forces with Sting on “Another Part Of Me,” adding a unique touch that mixes rap with Sting’s melodic voice.
For fans of Snoop and Dr. Dre, Missionary is a nostalgic throwback to the early ’90s era, yet it promises fresh, forward-thinking sounds. Dr. Dre’s creative influence is present on three songs, including “Pressure” and “Now Or Never.” Though Dre has primarily worked behind the scenes in recent years, his return to the mic adds a special energy to the project.
