Vancouver, BC has long been a hub for creative voices in Canada’s indie music scene, and one of its most promising emerging talents is Micaela Pirritano, who goes by the artist name Micae. A singer, songwriter, and music therapist, Micae’s story intertwines artistry with empathy, and her music carries both the intimacy of lived experience and the universality of human connection.
Growing up surrounded by music, Micae began singing at the age of four and studied voice through her early twenties. This dedication laid the foundation for a sound that blends melodic indie and folk rock with subtle hints of country’s aching honesty. But beyond her musical talents, Micae’s journey has been deeply shaped by her passion for helping others through the healing power of music.

Collaborations with Canadian Music Icons
Micae’s voice first caught wider attention in 2022 when she was featured on Star Dreams, the psychedelic pop album by Fancey, best known as a member of the legendary Canadian indie rock group The New Pornographers. The album received glowing reviews in Variety and Psychedelic Baby Magazine, with Micae’s ethereal vocals gaining radio airplay across North America. This collaboration put her on the radar of indie music fans who are always eager for authentic new voices.

A Career Rooted in Music Therapy
In 2021, Micae opened InTandem Music Therapy, a private practice in Vancouver where she works closely with neurodivergent children and teens. Through songwriting and musical expression, she helps young people make sense of their experiences and emotions. This work reflects her belief that music is not only a form of art but also a bridge to understanding, communication, and self-discovery.
Her curiosity about learning and connection also inspired her to pursue a Master’s in Education, focusing on how autistic students engage with technology to access meaningful learning. By merging research, therapy, and music, Micae embodies a new generation of artists who see creativity as a tool for justice, inclusion, and change.
New Music: “Blackberries” and For the Record
In April 2025, Micae released her latest single, “Blackberries”, a track that reflects her knack for weaving lyrical intimacy with atmospheric melodies. The single has been praised for its earthy warmth and poetic storytelling—hallmarks of her style.
This summer, she is set to release For the Record, a home-recorded EP crafted in her bedroom with a couple of close friends. Its raw, live feel mirrors the authenticity that defines her approach to both music and life.

Looking Ahead: Debut Album in 2026
The most exciting milestone in Micae’s career is still on the horizon. Her debut full-length album, It All Looks A Little Different Now, is slated for release in Spring 2026. Exploring themes of feminism, justice, forgiveness, and love, the record promises to be both deeply personal and universally resonant. Drawing from her indie-folk roots while embracing the yearning tones of country and folk-rock, Micae is preparing to step into her own as one of Vancouver’s most compelling new artists.
