Festival Journey: You’ve performed at major festivals like Bluesfest and Tamworth Country Music Festival—how have these experiences shaped your journey as an artist?

Big time! Not only has this shaped me and my knowledge as an artist but has taught me so much about being an independent musician, what happens behind the scenes and its community. I feel so very fortunate to have been apart of these festivals!

Stepping Into Solo: After years of collaborating with bands, what inspired you to step into your solo career at this moment?

I think it was time. I had a catalogue of songs that I’d written over the years that I’d keep going back to. I’d keep updating, rewriting and enhancing these tracks and it didn’t feel right to just leave them at that - I wanted to give them the sound I felt they deserved :)

Stories Behind the EP: Your upcoming EP is described as deeply personal and emotionally rich. What themes or stories can listeners expect from it?

This EP is a collection of songs I’ve written over the past probably 10years. Each track showcases a different experience and part of my life from my late teens and through my 20’s. From new love phases, heartaches and past regrets, you can find that whole compilation spread out across this EP :)

“Unfold” – Breaking and Becoming: “Unfold” is your second official single—what is the story or emotion behind this track?

‘Unfold’ is a very raw and honest track for me. This song is about witnessing a relationship starting to break away but still wanting to hold on with everything you’ve got. It’s wondering if you mean to them what they mean to you. I feel lyrically and vocally this is the first track that I’ve allowed sadness and fear to come through. It’s very daunting releasing a track like this but I hope this hurt can resonate with even just one person.

Power of Vulnerability: Vulnerability seems to be a core element of your music. How do you approach expressing such raw emotions through songwriting?

Tradition Lyrically, I feel being relatable is a core theme in allowing a listener to feel heard. Everyone feels emotion, and I aim to write in a way that’s true to that feeling. To be lyrically clear but not completely specific — I hope that this formula allows listeners to be able to place themselves in the songs shoes in a way that can be relevant to their own situations - whether that be love, hurt, growth etc.

Sydney Soundscape: As a Sydney-based artist, how has the local music scene influenced your sound and growth?

Prior to my solo work, I was fortunate enough to have written and performed in the Sydney local scene with a band, Night Kite. The knowledge I received through independent and hands on experience, gigging in festivals, interstate and around Sydney, has been everything! The people you meet along the way and the collaboration with different artists, has heavily influenced and continues to influence my sound and growth now — this is also where my absolute love for harmony began!

From Collaboration to Independence: What challenges and breakthroughs have you experienced while transitioning from a collaborative artist to a solo performer?

I think the big challenge for me is when collaborating or working with other artists, your solo music can definitely take a back seat, and to be still working with other artists now, this has been a prominent part of why it’s taken me quite a few years to release this EP. However, I wouldn’t change it for the world, I absolutely love working with other artists and it’s one of my favourite things to bounce ideas around together! I feel I’ve grown as a songwriter because of this and my songs wouldn’t be where they are today without the creative growth I’ve experienced through collaboration!
