In an era of polished production, Rich Lancia remains committed to honest, emotionally driven songwriting that connects on a deeply personal level. The New Jersey artist’s six-song EP The Rest of Me, produced by James Maddock, reflects years of musical experience, growth, and authentic storytelling. At the heart of the project is the title track, The Rest of Me, a heartfelt exploration of love, loyalty, commitment, and the passage of time. With its intimate lyrics and timeless message, the song celebrates the beauty of choosing to walk through life together despite life’s uncertainties.

The Heart Behind the Song: Congratulations on the release of The Rest of Me! What personal experiences or emotions inspired you to write a song centered on enduring love and lifelong commitment?

I wanted to write a song that was a statement of loyalty. Letting someone know that whatever is left and however long that may be, "I'm in."

A Clock We Cannot See: One of the song's opening lines, "There's a clock ticking that no one can see," immediately introduces the theme of time. What inspired this imagery, and what does it symbolize for you personally?

It's a reminder that you never know when your time is up. That unknown can be scary but also a reminder to make the most of your moments.

Time Marches On: The lyric, "Time marches by like a soldier in the sun into a battle we know can't be won," is incredibly powerful. How did this metaphor come to you, and what message were you hoping listeners would take from it?

We can't stop time from moving forward. You have to keep going, like a soldier goes into battle even if they know the odds are against them, willing to accept their fate.

The Promise of “The Rest of Me”: The chorus, "You get the rest of me," feels like both a promise and a lifelong commitment. What does that phrase mean to you, and why did you choose it as the emotional centerpiece of the song?

To me it means that it provides certainty in times of uncertainty. I chose it as the emotional centerpiece of the song because that's how I personally connect with the rest of the lyrics.

Trust Along the Journey: The line, "If my eyes get heavy, you can drive," beautifully captures trust and partnership. Are there particular moments from your own life that influenced this lyric?

I wouldn't say any specific moment influenced the lyric, but in general being in that situation where two people know they've got each others backs is special. Sometimes you're stepping up for someone, and other times they're stepping up for you.

Writing From the Heart: Your songwriting throughout The Rest of Me feels honest, intimate, and free from clichés. When writing emotionally personal songs, how do you balance vulnerability with universal relatability?

I think when you allow yourself to be vulnerable, that keeps you honest and makes your songs relatable. I don't write trying to relate to anyone else. I write something that I can relate to. Then when you decide to share it, it's great if others relate. But if not, that's ok actually. I think people connect when they feel the artist is being authentic, and I believe that starts with creating the art for yourself first.

Choosing Love Every Day: Many love songs celebrate the excitement of new relationships, while The Rest of Me focuses on choosing someone every day. Why was it important for you to tell this side of the love story?

I think this side of the story is the more real side. It's like the next step in the journey. Love that endures through the ups and downs. It's pretty powerful.

Bringing the Song to Life: How did the musical arrangement evolve to complement the heartfelt lyrics, and were there any production choices that helped strengthen the song's emotional impact?

The choice to use a shuffle beat on the drums played with brushes gave the feel of motion and a clock ticking. It felt right. This song and all the songs on the EP were recorded with a full band. I felt like we really captured a performance. It's scrappy and I like that.

Looking Ahead: Looking ahead, where does The Rest of Me fit within your artistic journey, and what can listeners expect from you in the coming months?

The EP is a collection of songs that were all written within the last year. They we recorded over 2 days and released shortly after so it's a little snapshot in time. Right now I'm playing some shows to support it and also working on new material as well.
