The Beginning of a Musical Collaboration: Cheri, what inspired you to reach out to Chace Skelton about collaborating, and what made you feel that he was the right artist and producer to bring “Your Word” to life?
I initially came across Chace’s music through social media, and then Spotify started recommending his songs to me as well. I really liked his lyrics, Christian pop vibe, and I thought his production sounded great. I thought together he and I could come up with a meaningful song, and I believed our voices would blend nicely. Given how much I enjoyed his music and production, I thought he was the perfect fit to do a duet with and produce my songs. So, I reached out to see if he’d be open to a collaboration, and he said, “Absolutely!”

From Messages to Nashville: “Your Word” was initially developed through phone calls and text messages before you both recorded it in Nashville. What was that songwriting process like, and how did the song evolve along the way?
Technically, we were a little outside of Nashville. We actually recorded the song in Chace’s home.
I had never collaborated with anyone before, so I wasn’t sure what the process would look like. I honestly thought it might be a little more challenging, but it was super easy and really enjoyable.
As you mentioned, we went back and forth through texts and phone calls to write the song. It started with me sharing a chord progression that was on my heart, along with part of a chorus. Chace really liked it, added some lines and a tag, and we continued building from there.
I wrote the rest of the lyrics, and he took my basic piano idea and brought the music to life. We wanted the song to be uplifting and encourage people to spend time in God’s Word. The lyrics came from both personal experience and Scripture.
Faith Behind the Lyrics: The song centers around the idea that God’s Word provides light, courage, and stability during uncertain times. Was there a particular personal experience or season of life that influenced these themes?
I don’t necessarily have one specific personal story to share. It’s more about the realization that I really need God’s Word. And for me, that’s daily.
I think of the Bible as my daily vitamin. I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s a good analogy. I really need my “daily dose” of His Word every day.
When I read the Bible consistently, I feel happier, more confident, less anxious, more hopeful, joyful, centered, and guided. His Word literally makes me feel better emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and even physically.

Creating the Sound of “Your Word”: Chace, you produced the entire track. How did you approach creating a contemporary Christian pop sound while making sure the spiritual message remained at the heart of the song?
From Chace: The main thing was making sure the vocal was front and center. Also, I made sure not to add too many distracting elements. It’s a pretty sparse production but I think that helps with the message of the song.
The Meaning Behind the Biblical Imagery: The lyrics use powerful biblical imagery, particularly the ideas of God’s Word being “a light at my feet” and “the

God’s Word being “a light at my feet” was the very first line I wrote. It’s such a beautiful, hope-filled picture: feet planted, surrounded by darkness—which I think represents sin,
Confusion, fear, uncertainty—yet a light at my feet to guide and direct my path, reveal truth, and provide hope.
It’s an image of contrast, as is the rock in stormy seas. Both images remind me that even when life feels uncertain or overwhelming, God’s Word provides direction and something solid to stand on.
From Chace: When all the temptations, fears, and worries from the World come at me I can lean on God to get me through all of it.
A Love Letter in Every Page: One of the standout lines describes every page of history as “a love letter” written just for the listener. How did this particular idea come into the songwriting process?
I love that you called that lyric a standout line! It’s actually my favorite line in the song.
I wanted to convey that throughout Scripture, which tells the story of God's work throughout history, everything He has done points back to His love for us. As I thought and journaled about this, I came up with that line.
Recording in Nashville: What was it like bringing “Your Word” into the Nashville recording environment, and did being there influence the final sound or atmosphere of the track?
As I mentioned, we actually recorded the song in Chace’s home, a little outside of Nashville.
Recording together in person was exciting because we were finally bringing to life what we had been developing through texts and phone calls. It was a great experience to see the song come together.
I wouldn’t say Nashville influenced the track. It was really our own musical tastes and faith that influenced the sound.

Faith Meets Contemporary Music: Christian music continues to embrace contemporary pop production while maintaining its faith-centered message. What role do you think modern production and songwriting can play in helping biblical messages connect with today’s listeners?
From Chace: The beautiful thing about Christian Music is that it’s defined by the message, not the sound. So there’s an opportunity to reach so many people through not only Pop but all other music styles as well.
I just put my head down and work. I don’t think about journeys and life lessons. I don’t know how to answer that question.
The Message for Every Listener: As listeners discover “Your Word,” what is the one message or feeling you hope they carry with them after hearing the song?
I hope listeners are reminded that we need God’s Word, and that it gives us the strength, encouragement, and wisdom we need to honor God with the lives He has gifted us. We can’t grow in our faith or in our understanding of Him and His love for us if we aren’t diving into His Word regularly.
From Chace: I hope they are reminded that the key to going through life is keeping God close and letting him guide the ship. The best way to do that is through his Word.
